Embracing imperfection –
the experimental world of a gel plate printmaker
About
I began my journey in the arts studying fine art at college, where I developed a particular love for printmaking. This passion laid the foundation for my career as a professional graphic designer, crafting visuals that communicate and inspire. Along the way, I earned a first-class degree in graphic design, further refining my creative skills.Today, I continue designing for clients while sharing my expertise as an A level graphics teacher at a local further education college. Being back in an art department rekindled my love for printmaking, prompting me to return to my creative inky roots. Now, I explore a new dimension of artistry through gel plate printing — a hands-on, experimental process that celebrates imperfection and spontaneity. My work draws inspiration from the layered beauty of the world around us: organic forms found in nature, the raw textures of discarded materials, and the echoes of history. Each piece is a unique fusion of collagraph patterns, industrial texture, and historical narratives.
